The United Way of Jamaica (UWJ) has long been a supporter of the farming sector especially after major disasters. During the COVID pandemic is no different, as the United Way of Jamaica and the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) recently launched the JAS/UWJ COVID Project at the St. Catherine Agricultural Branch Societies Annual General Meeting held on August 12, 2020.

 

During this Covid -19  pandemic, the United Way of Jamaica (UWJ) is concerned about the health and well-being of all individuals especially our frontline workers who are working assiduously to ensure the safety and protection of all Jamaicans against this deadly virus.

Kingston, Jamaica, July 14, 2020 - 100 participants from Sherwin Williams West Indies have already registered for the PSOJ Covid 19 Jamaica Response Fund Virtual Run.The event was launched yesterday, Monday, July 13, 2020, via live stream on the United Way of Jamaica’s social media platforms and the PSOJ facebook page.

During this Covid -19  pandemic, the United Way of Jamaica (UWJ) is concerned about the health and well-being of all individuals especially our frontline workers who are working assiduously to ensure the safety and protection of all Jamaicans against this deadly virus. 

As such the UWJ has pledged $2.5Million to assist with the purchase of protective gears for members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). UWJ’s Chairperson Dr. Marcia Forbes made the announcement during the Covid 19 Telethon, Jamaica ‘Together we stand’ on Sunday April 12, 2020.

The United Way of Jamaica (UWJ) today launched a “Jamaica National Children Home Restoration Fund ” during a Press Conference held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. The fund is aimed at assisting with restoration efforts following the recent devastation caused by fire which destroyed sections of the Jamaica National Children’s home on August 9, 2019.

The United Way of Jamaica launched its 2018 Fundraising Campaign on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Courtleigh Hotel. This year’s Campaign is aimed at raising $120M to support the United Way’s priority areas including education, health and community development. Chair of the Board of Governors of the United Way of Jamaica, Dr. Marcia Forbes in addressing the audience shared the impact that donations made to the United Way have been making. She

The United Way of Jamaica on Thursday August 16, 2018 presented the sum of $1,472,000 to six (6) basic schools at a Cheque Handing Over Ceremony held at the National Volunteer Centre. These funds will assist the institutions to improve their facilities in preparation to become certified with the Early Childhood Commission. This will in turn result in a total of 396 students and teachers being positively impacted come the new school year, September 2018.

The United Way of Jamaica (UWJ) held its annual Nation Builders' Awards and Employee Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. Ms. Chorvelle Johnson, President of Sagicor Bank and chair of the Women's Leadership Initiative was the keynote speaker for the ceremony. She shared on the need for increased volunteerism in Jamaica and noted that “Jamaica needs to ensure that our motto - out of many one people, means that we operate together, we volunteer together, and we donate together for the upliftment of our children and our communities.”
