United Way of Jamaica mobilizes $3.85Million to launch “Jamaica National Children’s Home Restoration Fund”

The United Way of Jamaica (UWJ) today launched a “Jamaica National Children Home Restoration Fund ” during a Press Conference held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. The fund is aimed at assisting with restoration efforts following the recent devastation caused by fire which destroyed sections of the Jamaica National Children’s home on August 9, 2019.

The fund was launched with a contribution of JMD$1Million from the United Way of Jamaica Disaster Fund. A mong the corporate entities and individuals who made commitments to support were: Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association($1Million), Noranda Bauxite Company($500,000 ), Windalco($500,000), Alliance Investments($250,000), BPM Financials($100,000), Sherwin Williams(in kind, paint and technical assistance),Dream Entertainment($100,000),  Phase 3 Productions($100,000 ) and Proven Wealth($250,000).Mr. Devon Smith, a Board Member of the United Way of Jamaica also pledged his support in kind through the provision of technical assistance.

Dr.Marcia Forbes, Chairperson of the United Way of Jamaica shared that “the organization is well poised to suit the needs of this particular activity. The United Way of Jamaica has a solid track record of not just helping to mobilize resources but importantly to manage, disburse and monitor funds donated in times of disasters.” She encouraged the public to make their donations to the United Way of Jamaica National Children’s Home Restoration Fund. Mrs. Rosalee Gage-Grey, Chief Executive Officer of the Child Protection and Family Services Agency expressed deep appreciation to the donors and outlined some of the needs of the home.
