The United Way of Jamaica honours its Corporate & Individual Nation Builders

The United Way of Jamaica (UWJ) held its annual Nation Builders' Awards and Employee Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. Ms. Chorvelle Johnson, President of Sagicor Bank and chair of the Women's Leadership Initiative was the keynote speaker for the ceremony. She shared on the need for increased volunteerism in Jamaica and noted that “Jamaica needs to ensure that our motto - out of many one people, means that we operate together, we volunteer together, and we donate together for the upliftment of our children and our communities.”

Chairperson of the United Way of Jamaica, Dr. Marcia Forbes CD, expressed appreciation to the corporate and individual donors, as well as the volunteers of the organization. She noted that their involvement through the United Way of Jamaica plays a major role in nation building. Fundraising Campaign Chair, Bishop Dr. Gary Welsh thanked the organizations and individuals who made the 2017 Campaign period a success and encouraged them to continue giving to the work of nation building. Contributions to the United Way of Jamaica support projects in education, health and income generation.

This year Jamalco/Noble Foundation received the award for the Highest Corporate Donor and Dr. Robert Chen received the Highest Individual Donor Award. Additional awards were presented to eighteen (18) Corporates, thirty-one (31) Individual donors; and fifty (50) Organizations whose employees are enrolled in voluntary payroll deductions.

The United Way of Jamaica was incorporated in January 1985 and is an autonomous non-profit Private Voluntary Organization, registered as a Charitable Organization and an affiliate of the United Way worldwide. The UWJ brings donors, volunteers, community leaders and other stakeholders together to meet the needs in the society.
